BIO
Rob Wenig was inspired to start playing bass by the rock/jam bands from the 60s/70s (Dead, Allman Bros., Cream) and the other great bands of that era (Beatles, Band, Neil, Floyd, Joni, Steely Dan, Motown). His interests soon expanded into jazz and other worldly music (Coltrane, Miles, Monk, Ornette, King Sunny Ade). Rob currently listens to Roseanne Cash, Shawn Colvin, Tom Petty, Lucinda Williams, Sting, Hornsby and Phil Lesh s solo projects. Phil inspired Rob to begin playing 6-string bass in 1992.
Rob combines a solid background in jazz theory/harmony with a love for the simplicity and freedom offered by rock improvisation. He has played in the jazz ensembles at Cabrillo College and the Berkeley Jazz Workshop. Rob just finished a four-year stint with the Little Wheels Band, an eclectic Americana folk/rock/jam band that played extensively around the Bay Area.
Rob s career in professional audio started as a bench technician at Meyer Sound in 1983, where he was exposed to state-of-the-art live concert systems. This inspired him to return to college at UC Santa Cruz where he obtained a degree in computer science and electronic music. After working a software engineer for six years and holding staff technical writer positions at Meyer and Dolby, Rob now runs his own technical writing business.
Rob is proud to be included in Michael Tobias' Artist Program.
